The New York Stock Exchange started the week with a rebound on Monday after a weekly loss in early August, as investors focused on the latest salvo in corporate earnings while awaiting the US inflation figure on Thursday.
The Dow Jones index gained 1.16%, the tech-heavy Nasdaq advanced 0.61% and the S&P 500 index gained 0.90%, according to preliminary results.
