(Reuters) – The New York Stock Exchange opened slightly higher on Friday, catching its breath after the rally caused the day before by Nvidia’s results.
In early trading and after their closing records on Thursday, the Dow Jones index gained 91.53 points, or 0.23% to 39,160.64 points, and the broader Standard & Poor’s 500 rose 0.39%. at 5,102.19 points.
The Nasdaq Composite gained 0.34%, or 54.08 points, to 16,095.70 points.
Wall Street begins its last session of the week on a calmer note after the enthusiasm generated the day before by the quarterly results of semiconductor manufacturer Nvidia, in particular due to strong demand for its cutting-edge chips used for intelligence artificial (AI).
The group’s action, whose valuation jumped by $277 billion during Thursday’s session, gained 2.8% at the opening on Friday and reached a market capitalization of $2,000 billion for the first time in its history. .
“Yesterday’s rally was exceptional and now the markets are consolidating,” said Ipek Ozkardeskaya, an analyst at Swissquote Bank, while adding that AI’s momentum is expected to persist this year.
In terms of values, Warner Bros Discovery lost 10.2% after announcing a larger-than-expected quarterly loss, the conglomerate having had to face the consequences of the two strikes in Hollywood and the weakness of the advertising market.
Space exploration company Intuitive Machines is up 30.4% after a spacecraft built and flown by the group landed near the Moon’s south pole.
