What is this smartphone with flashing lights?
From the front, the Nothing Phone (1) looks like a classic smartphone. But once turned over, its transparent back with visible LEDs is surprising. Even if it is not a major innovation in the world of smartphones, the proposal has the merit of being original. The Nothing Phone (1) reveals a few components, but above all different LEDs that light up depending on use. The ergonomics are pleasant once the smartphone is in hand and the finishes are excellent for this price range.
The “Glyph” system (the LEDs on the back of the device) is unfortunately not very useful and is ultimately only a decorative gadget. Glyph can indicate the battery charge level, accompany a ringtone or notification with a choreography of LEDs, or even flash to indicate the passage in silent mode. The limited aspect of the LEDs returns Glyph to the rank of fun and pretty functions, but not essential.
Is the Nothing Phone (1) a bargain at this price?
Despite everything, the Nothing Phone (1) is a very good smartphone for its price, and therefore an excellent deal with this reduction. The Snapdragon 778G+ chip accompanies the smartphone. It’s a mid-range processor, but it has the merit of being 5G compatible and providing good battery life. The Phone (1) has a 6.55-inch OLED screen with good brightness and pleasant to use.
The Nothing OS is correct, but suffers from comparison with its competitors. Some display bugs, issues with screen rotation, or an app that gets stuck in one corner of the screen are common. The fluidity of the smartphone is also not exemplary, despite the promise of a refresh rate of 120 Hz. For normal use however, these bugs, although annoying, do not make using the Phone (1) impossible.
Finally, in terms of photography, the Nothing Phone (1) is doing very well. Two sensors are present on the back of the device: a Sony 50 Mpix and a Samsung ultra wide angle 50 Mpix. While the main sensor does quite well, the ultra-wide-angle module suffers a little on the sharpness. But given the price range in which the smartphone falls, the quality is generally there.
