Want to speed up Windows 10 or 11 by up to 15%? This is how to disable VBS

VBS can slow down your PC by up to 15%, but you can disable this feature with a few manipulations.

Are you familiar with the Virtualization Based Security (VBS) feature? Activated by default on certain configurations of Windows 11 and Windows 10, this can cause a performance loss of around 5 to 15% for your software and games.

Check if VBS is enabled

If you want to sacrifice a layer of security to snag a few percentage points in performance, you can disable VBS on your system. To do this, several methods exist.

Start by checking whether or not VBS is active on your computer. In the Windows search bar, type “System information”, then select the interface that the tool offers you. In the System Summary section, look for “Virtualization-Based Security.” If the value is Disabled, you don’t have to do anything. If it is On, follow the next steps in this tutorial.

How to disable VBS?

The first method to disable VBS is to go to the Kernel Isolation settings. Simply type Core Isolation in the search bar to access it. If Memory Integrity is enabled, disable it and restart your PC to apply the changes.

Go to System Summary again to check if this time VBS is disabled. If it still doesn’t, move on to the next method.

Perform the Windows + R shortcut and type “regedit” in the field that appears to open the registry editor. Navigate to: ComputerHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlDeviceGuard.

Right-click on the EnableVirtualizationBasedSecurity option and select Edit. In the Value data field, change 1 to 0. Restart the computer and check again if VBS is shut down.

If this is not the case, a last solution exists. Type “Turn Windows features on or off” in the search bar and enter this menu. Look for the Virtual Machine Platform option and uncheck it if it is. Click OK and restart your PC.
