Wanted to protect women – helper stabbed: attacker (18) caught

After the terrible knife attack on Sunday in Vienna-Favoriten, in which a 21-year-old man was seriously injured, the police were now able to catch the suspect. It is a Syrian who is only 18 years old. The teenager is said to have previously harassed several women with a group at Reumannplatz.

Actually, the young witness just wanted to help the women. But then the 18-year-old troublemaker suddenly chased him in the Reumannplatz area with a knife and stabbed the 21-year-old several times. He was able to save himself and the group of young people ran away. Suspect caught by police. The injured person immediately had to receive medical care from the emergency services. “A tourniquet was applied to his thigh area,” the police reported on Monday. The police then immediately began searching for the suspect. The investigators have already caught him. The Vienna police confirmed this to the “Krone” on Tuesday morning. The Syrian’s murder weapon was also found and secured by the officers. Youth crime should be combated. After the attack on Sunday, Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) also went to the crime scene on Monday evening to get information to get a picture of a key police campaign against juvenile crime. The reason for this is the planned task force to combat juvenile crime (EJK), which, among other things, is supposed to carry out checks in public spaces. “If youth gangs get up to mischief, the police will intervene with the full force of the law,” he assured. In the future, the EJK will identify hotspots, identify members of youth gangs and quickly recognize new phenomena and initiate appropriate countermeasures. The findings of the task force will then also be incorporated into an interministerial working group.
