War Hospital: We have seen it, what you need to know about this management game close to a Frostpunk

Among the atypical games at Gamescom 2022 were War Hospital. Oriented management and strategy in the context of the First World War, the title asks you to take care of your soldiers to then send to the front. Here’s what you need to know about this survival-oriented production, which would almost make you think of frostpunk.

Making heartbreaking choices to save lives

As one might expect, War Hospital will ask you to manage a hospital in the middle of the First World War, while the enemy attacks your soldiers head-on in the trenches. Here, you will therefore have to manage, via your office, the soldiers wounded by scores, if not more. A bit like a Papers Pleaseeven Frostpunk or This War of Mineyou will have all the information displayed on the soldiers to support.

Thereafter, it will be up to you to do everything possible to keep them alive, depending on the personnel you will have available. To do this, you will necessarily have to improve your skill tree which will certainly be quite complete, buy with money new resources to treat your patients, but also additional staff. A staff that will have to be pampered, since the morale of the troops will have to be watched closely. It will not be necessary to put them, for example, 5 operations in a row, at the risk that they are out of shape, and therefore less effective in the next German assault.

There will also be positive or negative events that will sometimes be added to the gameplay of War Hospital. This will obviously force the player to make heartbreaking moral choices. so as not to jeopardize its personnel, but also the morale of the troops, which will be the important element. Indeed, this aspect is essential in order to hold the front against the enemy. You will obviously have to take care of soldiers with various injuries – gunshot wounds, burns, poisoned by mustard gas, etc. -.

An accessible, faithful aspect and a complete improvement side

Suffice to say that you will have your work cut out for you. The other important aspect of the title will be resource stewardship. Because in addition to having to take care of the patients, it will also be necessary to be careful that nothing is missing from the establishment. The resources will be used in particular to maintain the morale of your troops, but also to concretely improve your various buildings, which will inevitably be used for the proper functioning of your hospital. If the morale of your troops drops to zero and the Germans manage to decimate your soldiers with each assault, you will lose.

To finish, a tactical map will be included. You can send various scouts there to collect resources and contribute to the smooth running of the hospital. In addition, having the possibility of returning enough soldiers to the front in order to defend yourself from the Germans. Note that the game will also be divided into chapters, and that the degree of difficulty will certainly be a little high, but will offer affordable mechanics in the end.

Moreover, fidelity to the First World War is assured to us, insofar as where the studio works in collaboration with the British Museum, in order to transcribe everything in the most realistic way possible. Finally, on the lifespan side, War Hospital should buckle in about 8 hours of playor even a little more for those who are new to the genre.

In absolute terms, the software should be quite complete, realistic and sufficiently accessible for neophytes of the genre. We can’t wait to see more of this War Hospital, scheduled for 2023 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
