War in Ukraine: a member of the British royal family forced to make a sacrifice
As Vladimir Putin launched an armed offensive against Ukraine, a member of the royal family was forced to return a prestigious award received from the hands of a former Russian leader.
No exceptions will be made within the royal family. Over the past ten days, more than 1.5 million Ukrainians have fled Ukraine, while Vladimir Putin has launched an armed offensive against the country of Volodymyr Zelensky, thereby violating international law. If several cities have not yet fallen into the hands of the Russians, such as the capital Kyiv which is trying to hold on, across the country, the UN already deplores the death of more than 350 civilians, including 22 children. An already frightening record, which is particularly moving around the world, especially within the royal family.
After Camilla Parker Bowles, it was Elizabeth II who made a generous donation to support Ukrainians, while Kate Middleton and Prince William gave their support to President Volodymyr Zelensky and his wife Olena. And no exceptions will be made: Windsor’s support goes to Ukraine. Forcing Prince Michael of Kent, the Queen’s cousin, to return a prestigious award. Notorious Russophile and unofficial ambassador of the royal family to Russia, in 2009 he was decorated with the Order of Friendship by President Dmitry Medvedev. “I can confirm that HRH Prince Michael of Kent has returned his Russian Order of Friendship”his spokesperson simply said, adding that there is no “will have no further comment”reports the Daily Express.
What political scandal was Michael de Kent involved in?
Depicted on his site as an honorary professor of a Russian school of finance and decorated with the Russian University of Economics Plekhanov, Michael de Kent, whose wife Marie-Christine has been accused of racism several times, is also the initiator of several fundraisers to help the Russian population and has notably agreed to sponsor many cultural and historical events in Russia. In May 2021, he found himself at the heart of a political scandal, accused of having used his royal status to sell privileged access to Vladimir Putin’s regime, for compensation ranging from 10,000 to 200,000 pounds.
