War in Ukraine: Canada sent its first Leopard 2 tank by plane


Canada announced in late January its decision to deliver four German-made Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.

Canada shipped the first of its promised Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine on Saturday, Defense Minister Anita Anand announced. A Canadian Air Force aircraft “took off from Halifax with the first Leopard 2 battle tank that we are donating to Ukraine“said the minister in a tweet.

Canada stands with Ukraine, and we will continue to provide the Ukrainian Armed Forces with the equipment they need to winadded the Minister. “Battle tanks are on their way to help Ukraine. The first Canadian Leopard 2 is gone. Canada’s support for Ukraine is unwavering“, proclaimed the minister in another tweet accompanied by a video showing the loading of the tank and the departure of the plane transporting it.

Canada announced at the end of January its decision to deliver four German-made Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, the day after a similar announcement by several Western countries.
