War in Ukraine: Macron calls on WHO members to condemn Russian aggression

French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday asked member countries of the World Health Assembly (WHO) to support a resolution condemning Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine, and “reaffirmed the full solidarity of France and the European Union with Ukraine“.

We condemn in the strongest terms the military aggression committed by Russia, with the culpable complicity of Belarus“, launched the president in a video message at the opening of the Assembly, which will meet all week in Geneva.

The consequences of this war are devastating, in terms of health, on the populations, on the establishments and on the health personnel, who are targeted“, denounced Emmanuel Macron.

I call on all Member States to support the resolution presented by Ukraine», already supported by the main allies including France, the EU and the United States.

The text should be adopted on Tuesday but while it strongly condemns Russia, it does not provide “under no circumstances (his) expulsion“, argued a Western diplomat, recalling that the sanctions against a member country authorized by the WHO regulations are “very weak“.
