War in Ukraine: refugee reception arrangements revealed



AThen the first Ukrainian refugees arrive in France (9,761 since February 25), the government continues to expand the mechanisms to welcome them. the JDD had access, Friday, March 11, to an instruction sent to the prefects, signed by Gérald Darmanin, Olivier Véran, Marlène Schiappa and the Minister of Housing Emmanuelle Wargon, which specifies the procedure to be followed with regard to the reception of displaced persons. As a reminder, all arrivals from Ukraine benefit from temporary protection, a European status which grants them protection and a certain number of rights for a period of six months renewable for three years.

The government directives concern all Ukrainian nationals who lived in the country before the start of the war on February 24, 2022, and third-country citizens who had international protection in Ukraine before the start of the Russian invasion. . But also all those who can prove that they resided in Ukraine “on the basis of a valid permanent residence permit” and “who are unable to return to their country or region of origin in safe conditions and durable” and, finally, the family members of the persons concerned by the previous categories.

Allocation

Once the checks have been carried out, the persons concerned will receive a monthly allowance of 426 euros (variable according to family composition) and will also have access to APL as well as to medical care, the newspaper specifies. The prefects will also have the task of identifying the places of reception of these refugees, knowing that they cannot be accommodated in places for asylum seekers, because they will not belong to this status. It is therefore up to the public authority to find new locations to accommodate them. As for the children, they will be educated and accompanied to facilitate their integration, even temporarily.
