War in Ukraine: the call for help from a civilian refugee in her cellar to avoid the bombs

Alona Piskun is a Ukrainian mother. For the past two days, this young woman from Kiev has had to take refuge in the cellar of her family home to avoid the incessant bombardments of the Russian army. On the CNEWS antenna, she calls for help from France and the West.

Her son is only one year old, her nephew six, and despite the trauma they may be going through, this family has chosen not to flee Ukraine. Nevertheless, Alona Piskun and her family are condemned to hide to avoid the Russian missiles which fuse everywhere in the country.

“We are getting ready for the night, we have two children in the family, so we took toys, and we settled down as best we could,” says the young woman while filming her cellar.

If this resident decides to stay in her country, it is because, like many Ukrainians, she refuses to abdicate. “We cannot leave Ukraine because we want to fight, we have three men who can fight and we plan to stay here, also to give news, especially to the French press, and to be effective for my country”, affirms the mother of the family.

Military intelligence, and sharing on networks

Because if she cannot take up arms, Alona Piskun fights as she can by maintaining regular contact with the French press, and by showing the atrocities committed on the spot via social networks. An initiative validated by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense. “Yesterday, I was in contact with the Minister of Defense, and he asked me to continue to say what I say”, she assures.

For their part, the men of Alona Piskun’s family also do a lot of intelligence work for the Ukrainian army: “The men form groups to patrol the city to provide intelligence, because many Russian soldiers are dressed in civilian to give indications of ground to the army”.

A struggle by all means which could prove futile, without real material aid from the West, to which the young woman appealed: “We are asking for help, forces, weapons, we are asking to close the sky, because even if we have forces, we need help, please, we ask the French government to help us”.
