War in Ukraine: the city of Odessa pounded by the Russian army

Relatively spared by the Russian army so far, the city of Odessa in southern Ukraine is under intense bombardment.

According to the Ukrainian authorities, the Russians would have bombed the city seven times on Monday, the day of the visit of the President of the European Council Charles Michel. An initial assessment reports one dead and five wounded.

The infrastructures affected – an Auchan shopping center and a warehouse, in particular – have nothing to do with military objectives, testify the Ukrainians on the spot.

“A missile destroyed an Auchan supermarket in Odessa. Russia still has money for the war, partly thanks to Auchan,” the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense wrote on Twitter, incriminating the French retail chain which has kept its stores open in Russia.

According to the Ukrainian military, these bombardments would have been carried out with obsolete missiles which could date from the Soviet era.
