War in Ukraine: The Simpsons predicted the Russian invasion 24 years ago

The Simpsons have always been very good at predicting the future. Like Madame Irma, they have since their broadcast predicted many events: the election of Donald Trump, billionaire Richard Branson’s space trip, Lady Gaga’s show at the Super Bowl, the final episode of Game of Thrones…

But it is a tragic event that invites itself: the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. A burning news that the Simpsons would have predicted in an episode dated 1998; in this case episode 19 of season 9, entitled “A Homer at sea”, as the fans seem to point out. An episode, which, by the way, is called in VO simpsons tide; tribute to the movie USS Alabama (Crimson Tide in VO).

In it, Homer mistakenly fires torpedoes from a nuclear submarine in Russian waters, causing the rebirth of the Soviet Union, which deploys its troops and tanks to the streets.
