Henry Cavill may have just lost two iconic roles in quick succession, but the actor is already ready to bounce back in front of and behind the camera for a series in the universe of Warhammer 40,000.
Amazon and Games Workshop are also firing on all cylinders right now to fuel their offerings.
Henry Cavill + Warhammer = ?
Henry Cavill will no longer be Geralt of Rivia for The Witcher on Netflix. Henry Cavill will also no longer be Superman for Warner Bros. following the recent decision of the new bosses of the firm to go in another direction for the DCEU. But Henry Cavill is obviously not let down. The man, a nerd who assumes himself as passionate about building PCs as painting miniatures, has found another role to match his passions.
Waiting for news of his hypothetical participation in a series Mass Effect and his role in the reboot of Highlanderthe actor will star in and produce a series Warhammer 40,000 for Amazon. The company has just completed negotiations for the acquisition of the license for the famous board game from Games Workshop. Thanks to this, Amazon is now free to offer films, series and other projects based on this rich universe. And the firm intends to use it.
A project as ambitious as it is risky
Unsurprisingly, the first project unveiled (also overseen by Vertigo Entertainment) being still very fresh, no details on the scenario have been revealed. Like the dark story of Warhammer 40K literally spans millennia, there is no shortage of milestone events to adapt.
Difficult however to imagine Cavill in a role other than that of a Space Marine. Especially since the official announcement is accompanied by a short video where the Aquila, symbol of the Imperium of Humanity, appears. Gautoz’s idea on Twitter below is equally plausible, however.

Let’s hope that passion (and Amazon’s money) will be enough, because it’s hard to imagine a more complicated universe to adapt in live action as everything there is violent and excessive. An idea or a desire as to its role and the period that will be transposed into series?
