Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2: Release date and more

Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 will finally take players back to the dark darkness of the far future. Here’s everything we know about this long-awaited sequel, including release date, gameplay trailers, and story.

Back in 2011, the first game in the Warhammer 40K Space Marine series immersed players in a third-person hack-and-slash game pitting us against an endless waaaagh Ork! Now, after more than a decade, a sequel has been announced.

Does Space Marine 2 have a release date?

Although Space Marine 2 was officially announced at The Game Awards 2021, one thing we haven’t gotten is a release date, or even a release year.

Still, we were treated to some gameplay footage, which means the game may well be in a relatively advanced stage of development. That said, it doesn’t necessarily tell us what the release date will be, but we can bet on 2022 or even 2023 if development is pushed back.

What we do know is that Space Marine 2 will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Additionally, the game will be included in the Xbox Game Pass.

Space Marine 2 Trailers

So far, the only trailer for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marines 2 is the one shown above, which aired during The Game Awards 2021. It shows a group of Imperial Guards getting hacked up by Tyranids before until a trio of the Emperor’s angels intervene to save the day.

Ultramarine Captain Titus reveals his face at the end of the trailer. Besides jumping several generations in terms of visual processing power in the ten years since the first Space Marine, Focus Entertainment has also taken over from Relic in terms of development.

Knowing Games Workshop’s rigor when it comes to consistency, we should be able to expect a familiar style. As the final moments of the trailer indicate, the frenzied maelstrom of combat that fans were infatuated with in the first installment will be part of the game.

What will Space Marine 2 be?

Following Captain Titus’ arrest by the Black Templars for heresy at the end of the first Space Marine, the trailer leaves us with more questions than it answers about what our favorite Ultramarine went through between time.

Judging by the trailer, a Tyranid infestation has broken out on the planet, and the local Imperial Guard has been unceremoniously eliminated.

A scenario like “against all odds” seems quite likely for the main story of Space Marine 2. Titus even seems to have undergone the ascension procedure as a Primaris which would make him far more capable than in the first game.

The Primaris are superior to the First Born in every way.

Space Marine 2 Co-Op, Multiplayer

Space Marine 2 could very well have multiplayer since the first game had it too. On the other hand, co-op wasn’t a feature included in the first game, so it might not be present.

The first game’s multiplayer mode resembled that of Gears of War, so if you’re a fan of that series, the Warhammer title might just be worth a look.
