Warren Buffett has auctioned off a charity meal for the last time. For this, an unknown person paid $ 19 million.

An anonymous bidder bid more than $ 19 million for a meal with investor Warren Buffett (91) – and won the contract. It’s the 21st and final time the billionaire businessman has auctioned off a private luncheon for a San Francisco charity. The private dining, with up to seven guests, will take place at a steakhouse in New York City.

The highest bid at the Ebay auction also means a record. Lunch with Buffett had never raised such a large sum for charity. In 2019, one entrepreneur paid around $4.5 million.

Food for a good cause

The proceeds of the charity auction benefit the organization “Glide”. It helps the poor, the homeless or those fighting drug abuse with meals, shelter or training programs. With the auctions Buffett collected according to Ebay since 2000 more than 53.2 million US dollars for “Glide”. Due to the corona pandemic, no auctions took place in 2020 and 2021.

“It was nothing short of good,” Buffett said of his charity meal in the Ebay posting. “I’ve met a lot of interesting people from all over the world. The one overarching quality is that they feel the money is being used very well.”

Buffett is one of the richest people in the world. According to Forbes magazine his net worth is currently estimated at $93.4 billion.
