  • Charlie Munger, Warren Buffett’s longtime confidante, is dead.
  • Munger died Tuesday morning in a hospital in California at the age of 99, according to his family.
  • Munger had been vice chairman of the investment company Berkshire Hathaway, which is run by Buffett, since 1978.

“Without Charlie’s inspiration, wisdom and contribution,” Berkshire would not have been able to reach its current status, Buffett wrote in the company’s statement.

Munger was active with Buffett (93) at Berkshire Hathaway for decades. He was deputy head of administration and one of the largest shareholders. This also made him a billionaire. Berkshire Hathaway owns, among others, the insurer Geico and the railway company BNSF.
