Warzone is reportedly working on an “evolution” of Battle Royale

While Warzone 2 is in the pipeline, Activision’s many development teams currently seem to be working on other major projects, hoping to “evolve” the Battle Royale genre.

The Call of Duty franchise has gone through different stints in the Battle Royale genre. From Blackout to Warzone, developers have spent years working to deliver the best possible experience for fans.

And since the huge success of Warzone, don’t expect Activision to abandon the Battle Royale genre anytime soon.

With Warzone 2 currently in the works for an expected launch in 2023, new innovations could be on hand to take the game in a new direction.

Warzone is set to evolve tremendously over the next few years.

And recently, in a chat with ex-Call of Duty pro player TeeP, Warzone creative lead Josh Bridge hinted that several dev teams have already been working on something for quite some time. “exciting” to evolve the Battle Royale genre.

Looking to the future the Battle Royale genre is great, we love it, but I think we all like the idea of exploring what else we can do with so many players on a huge map.”says Bridge.

Although at the moment we don’t know exactly what these new experiences look like, previous leaks had revealed that Infinity Ward was developing a new game mode inspired by the game Escape From Tarkov.

This leak was later confirmed by other sources, pointing out that this standalone mode will feature a large number of players and modes for different sized teams. There is no doubt that this description meets many of the criteria similar to those set out by Bridge to make “to evolve” the Battle Royale genre.

Further details have since indicated that this particular mode, now labeled as “DMZ” has been in the works for several years already.

I can’t speak for everyone at Infinity Ward, but those I’ve spoken to are actually very positive about the game itself..” added Tom Henderson in December.

The Warzone devs want to bring Verdansk back through a rotation with Caldera.

Obviously, this information should be taken with a grain of salt for the moment. That “evolutionof the Battle Royale that Bridge talked about might just be something entirely different than the upcoming DMZ mode.

Also, in the absence of a specific release date for this potential evolution of BR, we will have to content ourselves with waiting to see how things will evolve over the months.
