Was revived – accident in Lower Austria: boy rescued from icy swimming lake

On Saturday, two boys were driven onto the ice-cold Kreuzenstein swimming lake in Leobendorf (Korneuburg district) in a boat without a paddle. They wanted to save themselves by swimming – the result was a major operation.

Dramatic scenes took place on Saturday at the Kreuzenstein bathing lake near Korneuburg (Lower Austria). Two 14-year-old boys discovered an abandoned boat and got in without thinking much. The boat drifted away, the duo jumped into the water. The Schinakl drifted out onto the swimming lake. They noticed too late that the oars were missing. In desperation, the duo jumped into the icy water to swim to shore. One of the two went under and his friend raised the alarm. Rescue workers arrived and the fire department was able to pull the boy’s lifeless body out of the water. According to the police, the 14-year-old, who was severely hypothermic, was flown “under ongoing resuscitation” to the Vienna-Donaustadt clinic, where doctors are fighting for his life.
