Washing towels: tips and tricks

Whether for use in the bathroom, kitchen, sauna or swimming pool – towels are absorbent and absorb not only moisture, but also dirt, sweat and bacteria. To get them hygienically clean again, they are correct wash cycle and the proper care crucial.

Sort towels

Before the towels in the Washing machine come, they have to be sorted by color so that there is no gray haze or discoloration.

Wash towels properly – how it works

  • For a good washing result, the Not too full drum, but also not be too empty. There should always be some space above the laundry so that it can move freely.
  • The right detergent is crucial. In general, liquid detergent is more suitable as a powder because there are no residues left in the fibers. Color detergent is particularly suitable for colorful laundry and Heavy duty detergent for white towels.

  • If the towels smell musty after washing, this is a sign that the washing was carried out at too low a temperature, or that the laundry was still damp when it was put in.
  • If you like it particularly fluffy and soft, you can softener use, however, the towels absorb less moisture. If there is too much fabric softener, the towels will become rough and scratchy.

Dry towels

When drying, of course, it always depends on the circumstances. If you have a garden, you can use the towels in summer on a clothesline dry, they stay nice and soft.

Even in the tumble dryer they stay fluffy due to the constant movement while they are in the room on the drying rack or on the heater become stiff and hard. Iron towels

There are people who iron socks and bed linen themselves, but unfortunately the ironing fun ends with towels. The fibers are pressed flat by ironing and thus the towels can absorb less moisture.

Wash microfiber towel – that's what matters

A microfiber towel dries faster and is space-saving. However, it looks a little different with care than with cotton:

  • A microfiber towel should only come with 30 to 40 degrees getting washed.
  • A fabric softener should be avoided.
