Waste separation: when paper does not belong in the paper waste

In Germany, a particularly large amount of waste is separated. In principle, the waste separation system is relatively clearly structured; For example, the name of the paper bin alone specifies what may end up in it, namely paper-based products such as newspapers, books, cardboard and boxes.

However, there are also exceptions when it comes to paper waste, which often makes correct waste disposal difficult. For example, receipts made of thermal paper do not belong in the paper waste, but in the residual waste, since thermal paper cannot be easily recycled. Even seemingly uncomplicated products such as handkerchiefs and packaging such as pizza boxes should only end up in the paper waste under certain conditions.

In the video above, we explain which paper or paper-like products are the exceptions and how to dispose of them properly if in doubt.
