Watch out for this scam that targets Netflix subscribers

Are you perhaps one of the millions of French people who subscribe to the Netflix platform? If this is the case, be careful not to fall for the new scam in vogue at the beginning of January and which affects your mailbox. So, as described 20 minutes, crooks do not hesitate to send users of the streaming service emails via various addresses.

The scam is simple: in the email, it is indicated that it is necessary to “update your information” with a small accompanying text: “Hello, we are refocusing problems with your payment information. We therefore decided to cancel temporarily your Netflix subscription “, is it indicated in the first part. “Once your billing information is updated, you can use your Netflix account on your favorite devices.”

Signs that don’t deceive

The scam is well put together and everything suggests that you are in the presence of an email from Netflix: the header, the logo, the colors of the company… Everything seems true. Account issues related to Netflix have occasionally been brought to the fore by users in recent months. But this is indeed a phishing attempt in that if you click on the link, you will be asked to enter your bank details. If you do this without checking, your bank details could be permanently stolen by hackers.

However, as our colleagues note, elements (as usual) should allow you not to fall into the trap, starting with the email address of the sender. Then the Netflix image is pixelated, decrypts 20 minutes, and finally a spelling error is present in the text. Last September, Capital told you already, Netflix had been the victim of the same kind of scam. Emails referring to a fraudulent site had been sent to users asking them to renew their subscription. The web hackers simply wanted to get your personal information from you.
