Goodyear has been working on a new airless tire for a few years now.

The manufacturer believes that airless tires could increase the availability, performance and comfort of classic cars.

The Tesla Model 3 in fashion airless

For several long years now, manufacturers have been talking about the availability, one day, of a new generation, airless tire. Tires simply made up of three elements: the shearband (belts and tread), the connecting structure (connecting web) and the rim. It is the binding structure that makes all the difference, because it is this structure associated with the shearband which supports the weight of the vehicle and gives the tire all its flexibility.

On the Goodyear side, it is indicated that airless tires have already been tested over more than 120,000 kilometers in Europe, the vast majority of the tests having been carried out with a Tesla Model 3. This development of so-called “non-pneumatic” tires at Goodyear is part of a technology goal to produce the first 100% durable and maintenance-free tire on the market by 2030.

Remember that the manufacturer Michelin is also working on an airless tire, called Uptis. The latter could be marketed between 2025 and 2028, and should be fitted as standard on the future generation of Chevrolet Bolt, which will be marketed within three to five years.

In addition to its puncture-proof side, the airless tire also meets a real ecological demand, since 200 million tires in the world are prematurely scrapped each year due to a puncture, damage caused by road hazards or accidents. uneven wear due to poorly adapted pressure.
