fun, news, tips… what else?

This Sunday, April 30, the Ministry of Ecological Transition released new data about the drought. 47 French departments are thus placed in a situation of vigilance, alert or crisis.

This is a subject that many dread. Indeed, it was expected that the government would communicate on water restrictions as summer approaches. It is now done, in view of theclimate emergency of our planet and our country, for which Julien Doré is committed. Due to global warming, some regions will even be uninhabitable in 2050. This Sunday, April 30, the Ministry of Ecological Transition thus listed 47 departments placed in a situation of vigilance, alert or crisis given the drought currently affecting France.

The return of sunny days may in particular explain this decision, as well as the low level of rain in some regions. Over the next few weeks, it is also very likely that these restrictions will increase. Indeed, this Wednesday, April 26, Météo France estimated that there is more than 50% the chance that the temperatures will be warmer than normal. This concerns the months of May, June and July.

Water restrictions: which departments are concerned?

The map communicated by the Ministry of Ecological Transition on Sunday April 30 makes it clear which departments are affected by water restrictions. These were taken by the various French prefects at the end of this month of April. Different levels, which obviously do not have the same importance, have been announced. THE level of crisisconcerns two departments: the Bouches-du-Rhône and the Gard. It is therefore prohibited to carry out non-priority water withdrawals, including for agricultural purposes. Health, civil security, drinking water or sanitation are understood by ‘priority uses’.

Furthermore, a large majority of Gard and Pyrénées-Orientales is placed in heightened alert. This is also the case for part of Ain, Oise, Alpes-Maritimes and Yvelines. For this level, a reduction in withdrawals for agricultural purposes of greater than or equal to 50% is expected. This means that more important limitations are applied for watering gardens, green spaces and golf courses. This can even go as far as a ban on certain samples.
