A sign of the times, the podium for the last European Car of the Year 2022 trophy was monopolized by three electric models, with the Kia EV6, the Renault Megane E-Tech and the Hyundai Ioniq 6 in order. , the Peugeot 308, was ranked 4th. As for the 5th, 6th and 7th places, they were also occupied by electric vehicles.
Convinced that the years to come will be electric or not, our colleagues at Automobile Propre had the idea of creating the Watts d’Or. This is the first French and even world trophy solely dedicated to the election of the electric car of the year.
For this great first, a jury made up of automotive journalists – some of whom come from the editorial staff of Digital —, youtubers and electromobility players was formed. His main task was to establish a first classification “according to several criteria emphasizing as a priority the sobriety and efficiency of the models in competition“.
In the end, 20 models (without distinction of finishes) from 14 manufacturers were selected. This list was not drawn up at random: it counts “all electric cars released and available for sale in France over the period from 01/10/2021 to 30/09/2022“.
In order to elect THE electric car of the year 2022, the general public is asked to express – anonymously – their preferences by rating, from 0 to 10, each of the cars selected. The votes cast will be decisive in the final ranking. The public has until September 30 inclusive to vote.
In addition to the electric car of the year, the Watts d’Or will reward the best charging network and the best innovation in electromobility.
The award ceremony, which will be streamed on YouTube, will take place on November 10 in the presence of the jury and the award-winning manufacturers, in Strasbourg.
