In the nineties, the “Wayne’s World” films inspired comedy fans, but then it was over – also because Mike Myers and Dana Carvey no longer understood each other. Is “Wayne’s World 3” coming?

Films based on “Saturday Night Live” skits have tended to be flops, as few skit ideas lend themselves to being made into feature length films. But there are two exceptions: “Blues Brothers” with Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi and “Wayne’s World” with Mike Myers and Dana Carvey.
In 1992 “Wayne’s World” became a worldwide mega success, and in 1993 a sequel followed. However, this fell short of expectations. Talks about further films stalled and in 1995 Mike Myers then left “Saturday Night Live” and conquered the box office again in 1997 with “Austin Powers”.
However, the friendship between Myers and Carvey suffered as a result, because Carvey is sure that Myers liked the portrayal of Dr. Evil copied from him. Backstage on “Saturday Night Live,” Carvey would occasionally impersonate SNL creator Lorne Michaels, putting his pinky to the corner of his mouth. A silly little idea Myers later came up with for Dr. Evil took over – without first asking Carvey for permission or naming him as an inspiration.
The two former friends have since reconnected after reprising their roles as Wayne and Garth in 2019’s MTV Movie Awards and 2021’s Super Bowl commercial. Is there perhaps a sequel to the former cinema success?

On Instagram, Dana Carvey has now published a picture of Wayne posing on the sofa for Garth to draw him. He wrote the lyrics “Garth says: ‘I like to paint’.”
Fans are now hoping that this picture is an announcement for “Wayne’s World 3”. Nothing has been confirmed in this regard, but at least Mike Myers and Tia Carrere have already stated in the past that they would be interested in a sequel. All that was missing so far was Carvey’s interest.
It’s possible that this image was simply from filming a new commercial, but even then, reactions to the image could make Carvey change his mind. The successful release of “Bill & Ted Save the Universe” in 2020 can also be interpreted as a sign that interest in sequels to nineties musical comedies is definitely there!
