The Waze navigation application, with its community aspect allowing you to inform and be informed of various traffic problems on the roads, has just added a new safety feature for drivers. Named “Accident history alerts”, it is displayed when driving on a regularly uneven section of road.
Gain alertness with this Waze feature
In beta since last year, “Accident History Alerts” are now deployed to all Waze users. Its objective is very clear: “to signal risky roads along your journeys”.
In its blog post, the navigation application highlights that there are more than 3,700 deaths per day involving cars, buses, motorcycles, bicycles, trucks or pedestrians and that injuries caused by accidents, the eighth cause of death in the world.
With more than two accident reports every 2 seconds by Wazers, the service asks to highlight its new functionality: “But what would happen if you knew in advance that you were approaching a road where there is Have there ever been any accidents?”
In detail, Waze explains that thanks to AI and community reports, Accident history alerts are the combination of “historical accident data and key information about your route”, such as traffic levels or road type.
So, if the route taken consists of one or more accident-risk roads, Waze will display it before entering these sections. Finally, we learn that users’ regular journeys will not be affected by the functionality in order to limit the number of alerts that drivers see.
