We always forget that it exists but this film with Scarlett Johansson is a masterpiece of science fiction

Discover a confusing, disturbing and innovative feature film worn by Scarlett Johansson, and which she shot just after “Avengers”.

It is possible that you have never seen this film worn by Scarlett Johansson, or even that you have not gone to the end! The mysterious Under The Skin offers the actress a 100% experimental film that is disconcerting.

An alien arrives on Earth and, with the help of a biker, abducts men and causes them to disappear in a blackish liquid energy that gradually dissolves them. Marvel’s Black Widow finds herself playing a role that’s completely unsympathetic and poles apart from Natasha Romanoff.

The feature is directed by Jonathan Glazer, who had not filmed for nine years and the release of Birth with Nicole Kidman, the story of a widow who is visited by a ten-year-old boy claiming to be the reincarnation of his late husband.

He returns with Under The Skin, an experimental SF film which, from its first minutes, shows that it will not follow a conventional narration and will let the spectator understand what is proposed to him.

Economy of dialogues, shocking images, sound and music (disturbing) at the heart of the process… these combined elements make Under The Skin an extraordinary film that we have never seen elsewhere.

A plan of the film

Following in the footsteps of Leos Carax (Holy Motors), another filmmaker putting these elements at the center of his cinema, Glazer does not seek to seduce but to upset the habits of spectators, innovate in the image, create sequences that permeate on the retina, giving Scarlett Johansson one of her most mesmerizing roles.

But with an estimated budget of 13.3 million dollars, the film is a bitter failure with less than 6 million collected at the box office worldwide. Consequence: Under The Skin falls into oblivion, and only a minority of spectators still remember its existence, for the visual slap it gave them when it was released in 2013.
