The revival of nuclear energy is one of the important issues of Emmanuel Macron’s second five-year term and of the challenges to be met by the European Union. However, Germany is considered to be a brake on green energy because of its massive use of coal. The Minister of Energy Transition Agnès Pannier-Runacher was the guest of Europe 1 this Sunday to talk about it. “We are in the process of giving ourselves the means to relaunch nuclear power”, assures Agnès Pannier-Runacher
France is in full revival of its nuclear fleet in order to make use of greener energy, but also to ensure independence in this area. This decision is more broadly in line with the objective set by the European Union to use at least 42% renewable energy in its consumption by 2030. However, Germany takes on the role of bad student when it comes to green energy, as its coal consumption has increased in recent years, to compensate for its nuclear shutdown.
The Minister of Energy Transition Agnès Pannier-Runacher was the guest of the Grand Rendez-vous d’Europe 1, CNews, Les Echos to address the thorny issue of nuclear power plants in France. For the latter, the position of our Germanic neighbor does not represent an obstacle to cleaner energy for the other countries of the continent. “If Germany manages, with its energy choices, to lower its greenhouse gas emissions, I think there are no difficulties.”
