If you still don’t use ChatGPT in your profession, or on a personal basis, it’s quite a pity. The various papers in this “ChatGPT We Asked” series seek to give you tips and areas that the famous chatbot can cover. Beyond very obvious aspects, such as programming or writing, is it possible to use this tool to create a podcast?

Seemingly, it can be complicated. ChatGPT only offers text-based outputs today, or so it seems. Let yourself be carried away and discover new capabilities that you never imagined you could exploit with ChatGPT, in the case of a podcast!

ChatGPT, future podcaster?

As always, when looking for help from ChatGPT, it’s interesting to start from a concrete project. Just asking “do me a podcast” won’t accomplish much. Thus, for the first prompt of this thread, we simply ask if ChatGPT is able to help us with a tech podcast, alone or with others.

Definition and planning”, “Hardware and software”, “Content”… These are different aspects that will have to be taken into account to launch the podcast project. Depending on your needs, it may be interesting to deepen one point or another, but we will not do it in this article. You could ask him for product recommendations for certain materials to buy (microphone, acoustic foam, etc.). Note, however, that ChatGPT’s data limit to September 2021 will make it obsolete on these recommendations. So remember to ask him how to compare microphones, for example!

Script creation, and voice synthesis, is it possible?

Let’s say you have now done everything to get your podcast started. You are ready to record the first episode, but you don’t know how to go about it, and above all, what subject to approach? Since ChatGPT does not have day-to-day information, it will not be able to deal with the latest news. For this first fictional episode, we will therefore start with a reflexive subject, but ChatGPT will help us define the subject and find a script.

The proposed subject is therefore “The era of generative AI – An immersion in the world of GPT”. The script proposed by ChatGPT turns out to be rather short. It’s hardly surprising, there was a slim chance that the script would last 15 minutes from the first draft on his part. It is thus possible to ask him to detail, giving him the time allowed by his script. This makes it possible to have a more extensive script. It should also be noted that beyond the textual content, it also specifies the tone to adopt in the script. It is also specified the type of music to be placed and when, the pauses to be placed between two texts… It is therefore very extensive and detailed, which is appreciable.

With the arrival of Code Interpreter, it is possible to ask ChatGPT to create code. This code, in Python, is able to go beyond the usual textual output of the chatbot. It can be asked to generate images, videos or tables for example. But we can also ask for audio, thanks to TTS (text-to-speech) modules. Thus, if one provides the script offered by ChatGPT to Code Interpreter, it may be able to provide audio from the podcast. The voice will be very robotic, it won’t be perfect. The pronunciation in French will surely be execrable, but it is an idea to deepen.
