The advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI), with ChatGPT in mind, brings its share of questions. Will this tool remain a tool like the computer was in its day, or is it a job destroyer? In any case, day by day, we discover new areas in which he can be competent.

Today, it is its ability to support the use of other AIs that interests us. So let’s review his way of creating prompts for Dall-E.

Is ChatGPT imaginative?

First, we’ll start by testing ChatGPT’s “authoring” capabilities. It is also necessary to check if he is able to do the task asked of him. In advance, we already know that he will answer us in the affirmative, if we ask him what is his ability to generate prompts for Dall-E.

We therefore notice that he is well able to carry out the task, and that he has even taken the initiative to make proposals. It thus offers several prompts for Dall-E. Note, however, that they are not very precise, which will give very heterogeneous results. And indeed, it is. As you can see below, the images are in a wide variety of styles, which was expected.

Guiding ChatGPT is your mission

As always, ChatGPT needs accurate information to excel in its responses. Thus, his pure creative capacity is very limited, he can rather perfect our desires. We will therefore rather focus on a human creation, an idea of ​​our own. He will have to synthesize the idea, and make sure that the prompt is oriented to obtain the right results. The idea we have today: create an image that represents a set of technological products (smartphone, PC, tablet, headphones, connected watch, etc.)

We thus find a very precise prompt, but long. Let’s not waste any more time, and see what happens on the Dall-E side.

On the proposals that you can see below, we notice, in fact, that the requested elements are found, the style of the image is respected. However, there are some bugs in the build, related to Dall-E. What we had in mind was not a top view photo. And we insist on the fact that we must see wireless headphones, a connected watch, a PC, a smartphone with a borderless screen, and a tablet.

We therefore simply ask ChatGPT to modify this prompt, specifying our thinking. And by the way, we realize that it would be relevant to test this in English, to see the difference in reaction. We also tell ChatGPT to be descriptive, and not to ask for the image.

And finally, we find results closer to what we had in mind, and of very good quality. The first image is also excellent, so it will be the basis for the rest of the experiment.

Extending an image is possible with Dall-E

Square images are cool for Instagram, but useless for everything else on the internet. We are therefore going to use a feature of Dall-E, which allows you to extend an image. You can either ask for a basic extension, or simply add specific elements. It is also possible, thanks to this, to merge images.

On the example above, it’s just the continuation of the image, with exactly the same prompt. We therefore find a more complete result, and more usable thanks to a rectangular format. However, on the original image, some elements were missing, so you can use a special prompt to choose to update the image according to what you want.

We notice that ChatGPT has trouble staying on a simple description. We have version 3.5, maybe version 4, available as a paid version, would be more efficient. However, the result on Dall-E is not bad at all. We made the prompt on both sides, separating the tablet on the right, and the computer on the left, and apart from a few flaws, the end result is almost usable.
