Let’s take a look at the second, and more specifically at the final year students, who are in the middle of the baccalaureate exams.

With the new reform, it is the philosophy test that was passed very recently by future (hopefully) graduates. Could ChatGPT have helped you, or even been better than you?

Compose a dissertation, ChatGPT won’t say no!

Unlike the other papers in our “ChatGPT Was Asked” series, we’ll be asking the more muscular version the questions. It’s GPT-4 that will answer our questions, certainly with a longer delay, but also with greater quality (a. By purely arbitrary choice, we will make the AI ​​floor on the following general series essay topic: ” Wanting peace, is it wanting justice?” A fascinating subject, you will agree.

Generally speaking, ChatGPT is very accommodating. He will never or very rarely say no to you. If we ask him simply if he is capable of writing a dissertation on philosophy, he will think he is a great philosopher and will begin to compose. To avoid seeing him go into the wall quite stupidly, we obviously give him the subject. But, the little trick will be to ask him his way of proceeding, and what subjects he intends to link to the problem posed. This will verify these skills and knowledge.

And on the screenshot you see above, he indeed offers a more than adequate methodology, which is recommended by philosophy teachers for all final year students. In this case, he will be able to compose his copy directly.

Admittedly, we are not professors of philosophy, but comparing with the best copies of philosophy, it seems to us quite correct. It doesn’t use very convoluted turns of phrase all the time, it uses precise structure, and it has classic biases that 12th graders may have. ChatGPT is therefore not yet a graduate of a bac + 5 in philosophy, too bad for him. This is not really the objective that this paper has, and we are not going to award the philosophy medal to ChatGPT. Moreover, it is currently not possible to have access to ChatGPT in the middle of a philosophy test, so the exercise is in fact very limited. What can be interesting is rather its ability to help us with revisions.

GPT, have us revise, you must!

At the very beginning, if you understood correctly, ChatGPT was asked to give us the domains it was going to use in this dissertation. Well, why not start from these areas to begin our revisions? If you’re a senior, and you’re reading this, it’s slightly too late for revisions, we admit it. However, it is always good to see or review the areas of morality and politics (except at Science Po).

We therefore ask him to help us, quite simply for our revisions. These revisions have the triple objective of increasing our knowledge, understanding and references around the field of politics and morals in philosophy. Thus, as a good studious student, he lists us a whole bunch of references from philosophers who have composed on morality.
