While waiting for a possible season 2, who is this character who intervenes at the very end of Parasyte: The Grayon Netflix?
Korean series event this early April, Parasyte: The Gray freely adapts the famous manga by Hitoshi Iwaaki. In any case, it takes the same basis: extraterrestrial parasites fall on Earth and infect humans, whose body is nothing more than a host. These parasites can change the entire metabolism of this body: this is how their heads can decompose to deploy tentacles.
The Korean version keeps this plot, but partly modifies the course of the story (which takes place here in South Korea, even if the threat concerns the whole world) and changes some characters, and adds some. For example, Lee Jung-hyun plays a Gray Division heroine, Choi Jun-kyung, who is not present in the manga.
At the end of the six episodes, a new character arrives in the story, and embodies the final scene of this season 1. Who is he? Spoiler alert: make sure you have seen it all the way through before continuing.
Who is the character at the end of Parasyte: The Gray ?
At the end of this season 1, Parasyte: The Gray did not reach the end of his story. Certainly, the mayor has been protected from any infection, but the problem has not been resolved: the parasites are still present and the invasion has not been contained, far from it. Besides, the Gray Division still exists. This recruited Seol Kang-woo, who therefore decided to “stand down” to join these special forces.
As for Jeong Su-in, she has made peace with Heidi, her parasite: the two beings now live together in the same body – as evidenced by the letter left by Heidi to her host. Even if she continues to work in a shopping center for the moment, Seol Kang-woo still suggested that she also join the Gray division. We do not know, however, whether she intends to accept or not.
It is not on this seaside sequence that the series ends, but in the division’s premises. Choi Jun-kyung is informed that she has a visitor, a journalist from Japan. When he introduces himself, he gives his name: Shinichi Izumi. Readers of the manga probably recognized him, because this character is actually the original hero of Parasite (as well as the anime). And the way it is filmed is not insignificant either.
Hitoshi Iwaaki’s hand in Parayste
In Hitoshi Iwaaki’s work, it is this teenager, Shinichi Izumi, who is a hybrid. On the other hand, the character’s situation differs greatly from Su-in, the heroine of the Korean series. Shinichi is attacked by the parasite during his sleep while he has his headphones on: he is then awakened and defends himself. The parasite then attacks his right hand and tries to climb back up, but Shinichi blocks the parasite by winding his earphone wires and squeezing very hard. The parasite then decides to infect only his right hand. The adolescent therefore cohabits with Migi — the parasite — through this member of his body.
Shinichi Iwaaki’s original story also explains why the final shot focuses so much on his right hand, which he holds out to Choi Jun-kyung in greeting. It remains to be seen what the character’s exact place will be in season 2, if it is ordered.
