We have the measurements of the iPad Pro and Air 2024… and a surprise is planned

Sources from the specialized media 9to5Mac were able to send it, a few weeks in advance, the precise dimensions of the 2024 iPad Air and iPad Pro. We therefore obtain additional confirmation that a large format iPad Air would indeed be on the menu This year.

A larger iPad Air (as has been rumored for a few months), but also a thinner iPad Pro. This is what we learn from the information shared this week by 9to5Mac. The specialized site obtained from its sources the precise dimensions of the mid- and high-end 2024 iPads. Precise enough to allow us to have an increasingly clear idea of what Apple has in store for us a little later this year.

In terms of tablets, it is therefore confirmed that the Californian giant would be banking on a renewal of the iPad Air and Pro that is a little more ambitious than that observed in recent years. On the iPad Air side, it is rumored for example that the firm is working on two distinct versions (code name J507 and J537): one identical or almost identical to the current model, the other this time equipped with a screen 12.9 inches, equivalent in size to the largest iPad Pro.

The iPad Air available in two different sizes: a first

This novelty would constitute a great first for Apple, which has at this stage never marketed its iPad Air in two different formats. However, it would be a good idea, at least to expand the mid-range, and potentially also a relevant strategic decision to revive tablet sales which have been eroding since 2020.

To boost sales, Apple would also have the idea of thinning its high-end slate. 9to5Mac thus evokes aesthetic changes for the iPad Pro, which would grow this year by a few millimeters… while becoming slightly thinner, particularly for the 12.9-inch model. A development probably due to the arrival of OLED technology on the device, which requires less thickness than the LCD technology used until now.

Still according to specialist media sources, the iPad Pro will rely this year on an M3 chip (installed last year on the MacBook Pro and the iMac). We also learn that the launch of Apple’s new tablets is now close. And for good reason, accessories manufacturers are currently mass producing shells, covers and other protection for the next iPad Air and Pro. According to Bloomberg, these would arrive on the market at the end of March.

Anyway, here are the dimensions of the upcoming iPad Pro (11 and 12.9 inches) and the 12.9 inch iPad Air obtained by 9to5Mac:

  • iPad Pro 11-inch (current): 247.6 mm x 178.5 mm x 5.9 mm
  • iPad Pro 11-inch (new): 249.7 mm x 177.5 mm x 5.1 mm
  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (current): 280.6 mm x 214.9 mm x 6.4 mm
  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (new): 281.5 mm x 215.5 mm x 5.0 mm
  • iPad Air 12.9-inch (new): 280.6 mm x 214.9 mm x 6.0 mm
