Will come out, won’t come out? Many gray areas still surround the smart phone
folding from Google. But our colleagues from 9to5Google are in possession of new elements that teach us more about the delicate project of the Web giant.

After being able to discover the screen ratio of the “Pixel Fold” in the code of Android 12 a few days ago, the American site informs us that we were on the wrong track from the start, question of nomenclature.

Don’t say Pixel Fold, but Pixel Notepad

According to the sources of 9to5Google, Google’s first folding smartphone will actually be called Pixel Notepad, not Pixel Fold.

A small linguistic subtlety, which places less emphasis on the foldable aspect of the device than on its ability to offer a space of productivity to its future buyers.

On the other hand, only the future will tell us if the manufacturer intends to stick to this name before the commercial launch of this new product. A launch which, moreover, still does not have a date or even a precise window. As we know, the shortage of components has a heavy impact on tech companies. And Google is no exception.

A lower price than the competition?

In contrast, 9to5Google says he learned a bit more about Pixel Notepad pricing. So far, folding smartphones have stood out above all for their inaccessibility to ordinary mortals. Even if Samsung made efforts in 2021 with Galaxy Z Fold 3 and, above all, Galaxy Z Flip 3 sold respectively 300 and 500 € cheaper than their predecessors.

However, according to American media sources, the Pixel Notepad would be launched ” cheaper than a Galaxy Z Fold 3 “. Understand: less than €1,799 (if the smartphone is planned in France – which is far from certain for the moment).

In truth, 9to5Google reports that the Pixel Notepad will launch “first” in the US before a later launch in other parts of the world. A two-step launch that the media considers “ most important than what had been observed between the American launch of the Pixel 4a and its arrival in Europe.
