“We, pediatric resuscitation paramedics, demand immediate measures to guarantee the safety of your children”

MMr President,

For several weeks, the alarm bell has been sounding about the dilapidated state of paediatrics and in particular of resuscitation and continuing care services. However, we have been reporting on the malfunctions that led to this cry of alarm for several years. To date, nothing has changed.

Many beds are closed for lack of carers and the cruel lack of places is accentuated by the current epidemic of bronchiolitis. Since 1er October 2022, more than 35 children in critical condition had to be transferred out of Ile-de-France. Treatments have accelerated, which is undermining all pediatric caregivers. The feeling of sloppy work induces a heavy atmosphere in the services which pushes a large number of us towards the exit.

Tuesday 1er November, the Minister of Health visited a pediatric intensive care unit in a Parisian hospital to meet the teams and discuss their various demands. Despite this, it seems that we have still not been heard.

Taking into account the difficulties of care

Thus, we, pediatric resuscitation paramedics, demand significant and immediate measures to guarantee the safety of your children and our diploma:

– The critical care bonus for all is due and must be retroactive. This bonus is now being replaced by other bonuses that existed before.

– The hardship of night work must be significantly upgraded, and this in a sustainable way. The monthly salary of caregivers working at night must be increased by 400 euros net. There is no question of a revaluation appearing in the form of a bonus: it must be entered on the salary basis. At present, it has only been increased temporarily (until March 31, 2023) from 1 to 2 euros gross per night hour. This represents a gain of 110 euros gross per month for a totally reversed physiological rhythm and increasing fatigue.

– A decent salary increase with a minimum net monthly salary of 2,000 euros must be put in place. It must take into account the specificity of our profession which is paediatrics on the one hand and resuscitation on the other. Added to this is a diploma recognition of this specialty. We are also calling for the possibility of validation of acquired experience (VAE) for nurses already in post with expertise, as well as additional training for those leaving school.
