During Summer Game Fest, we had the opportunity to get our hands on Massive Entertainment’s next video game, Star Wars Outlaw. Our editor XSable played the title for 1 hour during which he was able to discover the different aspects of gameplay that make up this new opus. We present to you some key points to find in detail in our Preview Video!
Outlaw is a love letter to Star Wars
Star Wars Outlaw presents itself as a title capable of pleasing all fans of the famous saga, thanks to “exceptional” artistic direction and “stunning” visuals. Developed by Massive Entertainment, the creators of The Division, this video game uses the same graphics engine to offer a 4K experience described as impressive! The developers, big Star Wars fans, have made a point of transcribing the atmosphere of the original trilogy by highlighting its dirty and retro aspect, reinforcing the immersion for a mastered “old school” rendering.
The game is full of eater eggs for fans of the cinematic saga, with many small details like the blue font, used for translations of alien dialogue in films, and the iconic fade-in death transitions. Players will also find many familiar alien races from the second trilogy for example and all of this should make this production a true love letter to the Star Wars universe.
Effective gameplay!
The gameplay of Star Wars Outlaws stands out for its simplicity and efficiency, providing an immersive gaming experience. The exploration system is reminiscent of that of the Uncharted franchise, with elements like the grappling hook, yellow surfaces to spot holds, infiltration sequences and special vision to detect enemies and objects. The combat system is also well designed, incorporating a “shooter” aspect with a blaster that can overheat, and a reloading mechanism that requires good timing to get more powerful shots.
