“We scan them from A to Z”, we finally know what the compatibility tests contain

In the show Married at First Sight, the candidates choose to marry a stranger, designated as compatible with them, by science. But how is this compatibility calculated? We tell you everything!

This Monday, April 1st, M6 broadcasts a new episode of season 8 of Married at first sight. Viewers will notably meet Marie, a young woman who has experienced a terrible betrayal in love and is not ready to trust again. We will also find Tracy and Flo, who are getting ready to go on a honeymoon to Ibiza! Like all candidates, they hope that their compatibility will be enough to create a beautiful love story.

Because as a reminder, the candidates of Married at first sight make the crazy bet of marrying a stranger, putting their destiny in the hands of science. For this they all pass personality tests which then allows them to find a match. But what do these tests actually contain? The Parisian investigated and here is the newspaper’s response.

Around a hundred candidates take the test

Each season the production receives approximately 20,000 applications and must therefore carry out a sorting process to keep only a few hundred applications. These selected candidates are then invited to participate in a workshop which lasts an entire day. Men and women are confined to hotel rooms and must not cross paths.

From their room, they then take a series of tests. “We scan them from A to Z,” explains Karen Aboab, the show’s producer. The numerous questions they answer aim to determine their character traits, their values, their way of life but also their life projects. “They have all the time they want to answer it. On average, it takes them about two hours”, indicates Estelle Dossin.

Many questions about their sexuality

The sexuality of the candidates is also scrutinized. “We ask them how often they want to have sex, whether there have been homosexual attractions or experiences, threesomes,” reveals Karen Aboab. Obviously, the responses are confidential and read “only by the show’s experts.” But that’s not all. Candidates must still pass “clinical interviews” with the experts of Married at first sight. They will not see them for several weeks, a long period chosen to test their motivation.

As for the physical requirements of candidates, experts ask them “to describe to us their feminine or masculine ideal. This often resembles Santa’s list”, explains Karen Aboab. The idea is to establish an attractiveness test in order to detect what are the prohibitive physical criteria, such as poor dental hygiene or baldness. Then, a computer program takes care of cross-referencing the data. Then the experts add their grain of salt to define a compatibility rate so the methodology will remain confidential!
