we test the curtain fringe on totally different hair

Very trendy this winter, is the curtain fringe really made for everyone? We decided to test it on short, long and curly hair. Discover the before/after photos of the transformations and the advice of a hairdresser.

Ultra-trendy this winter, the curtain fringe will also be one of the must-have hairstyles of 2023. Ideal for transforming a haircut without shortening all of its lengths, it also allows you to highlight the look and of emphasize the line of the cheekbones. Another significant advantage, it can adapt to all lengths and all types of hair.

This is why we decided to make 3 curtain fringes on 3 totally different hairs: a curtain fringe on a square cut with Marion, a curtain fringe on long hair with Manon and a curtain fringe on curly hair with Louisa. To carry out these transformations, we called on the hairdresser Gianni Coppa. Discover the before/after photos and the advice of a pro to adopt the right shape of curtain bangs and style it perfectly.

Manon: curtain bangs on long hair

“I would like to have real curtain bangs, which reach below the eyebrows and which I can wear either in long bangs or styled on each side of the face. I want it to be thin enough not to be too hard to style in the morning”

The expert’s decryption : “Manon has fine hair but very good density. The more density you have, the more you can afford to make thick bangs without reducing the volume of the hair. I advise her to opt for a slightly rounded fringe (and not in the shape of a triangle as is more usual) and tapered on the ends to bring lightness and a more modern result.

Hair advice from the expert : “I advise her to style her bangs with a straightener. You have to comb the fringe with a comb and pass the iron just after and slightly curling the ends. We finish by passing a little hot air from the hair dryer to create a softer and more natural effect. Another option: work the fringe with a round brush and a hair dryer, in the opposite direction desired. This will give it a supple and slightly domed effect.”

Louise: curtain bangs on curly hair

“I want to transform my long cut without cutting my hair drastically, I think curtain bangs are a good option. I would like to have curtain bangs that I can also wear when straightening my hair.”

The expert’s decryption : “Louise with fine, slightly fluffy hair. To give her curls more definition, I advise her to apply her mask or conditioner from roots to ends. This helps prevent frizz. She can then dry her hair with a diffuser. The curtain fringe will bring lightness to her curls and therefore give more bounce to her curls. It must not be too wide, otherwise we lose mass on the sides of the face”.

Hair advice from the expert : “To quickly style curtain bangs on curly hair, you must use a leave-in spray. My tip: mix 1 tablespoon of its care for curly hair with 200ml of water and pour everything into a spray bottle. Spray on the fringe then dry with the diffuser by placing it over the fringe to avoid having too much volume.

Marion: the curtain fringe on a square cut

“I want to wear long curtain bangs, which I can easily tuck behind my ears if I want. I want something easy to style.”

The expert’s decryption : “Marion has a small forehead, the curtain fringe will create amplitude and therefore give a more beautiful harmony to her face. A long curtain fringe will emphasize the line of the cheekbones and can be easily styled behind the ear. For the haircut, I advise her to shorten it slightly and go to the bob at the nape of the neck to give more pep to her face”.

Hair advice from the expert : “To set up the curtain fringe, I recommend using a round brush and a hair dryer. Roll the fringe up and out of the face, heating the roots well, for 10 seconds, wait a few seconds for the wick to cool down to unroll the fringe. It falls naturally on each side and stands on its own”
