We thought this franchise was dead and buried, James Cameron wants to resuscitate it after Avatar 3!

Despite the failures, James Cameron is working well on a return of this franchise, in parallel with the Avatar sequels. It is…

Tireless James Cameron! Very busy with Avatar, whose new sequel will arrive in our cinemas on December 18, 2024, the filmmaker has indeed resumed writing for another of his franchises, Terminator!

Last December, James Cameron already indicated that he was considering this project: “If I were to make another Terminator feature and maybe try to revive the franchise, I would focus on the artificial intelligence side and less on bad robots gone crazy.“, he had explained. “It is under discussion but nothing has been decided yet.“, he added.

James Cameron confirmed this project at a conference for professionals in new technologies, Dell Technologies World. “So James Cameron just told the #DellTechWorld audience that he started writing a new Terminator 3 months ago, but he wants to see how artificial intelligence evolves, before going any further.“, can we read on Twitter.

Captured by Avatar, including a 4th and 5th part, will James Cameron find the time to carry out this new project linked to Terminator? A project that may also surprise when you keep in mind that the last parts did not have the expected success.

As a reminder, James Cameron had met with phenomenal success with the first two Terminator films in 1984 and 1992. But the 3rd opus, which was released in 2003 with Jonathan Mostow at the helm, was less convincing. The franchise was then revived in 2015 with Genisys and in 2019 with Dark Fate (with Alan Taylor and Tim Miller at the helm). Both disappointed at the box office.

Soon an exhibition dedicated to the art of James Cameron

At the same time, we learn that James Cameron is involved in an exhibition project that will cover his entire career. Entitled “The Art of James Cameron”, this one will settle in The French Cinemathequein Paris, from April 3, 2024 to January 5, 2025, a period which will coincide with the release of Avatar 3, on December 18, 2024.
