Weak start – Despite half the price: VW ID.7 flops in China

VW isn’t having an easy time in the huge Chinese market. The Wolfsburg-based company has just lost its market leadership and is now facing the next blow: the VW ID.7 Vizzion is launching on the market as a total flop.

No more than 300 orders were placed in the first three days from the market launch on December 15th – a debacle! The price tag says just half as much as the ID.7 costs here. However, it is not the same model that is sold in this country, but rather the result of a joint venture between FAW and Volkswagen. The ID.7 Vizzion is available from just under 240,000 yuan, the equivalent of a good 30,000 euros. The base price in Austria is 59,990 euros. According to market researchers from CarFans, Chinese dealers sold between zero and one copy in the first 72 hours. Overall, one in 20 people who viewed the car ordered one. 80 to 90 percent of customers are said to be men, and the average age is said to be around 40 years. According to CarNewsChina, the ID.7 is viewed as a second car for the family. The ID.7 Vizzion is the brand’s top model in the Middle Kingdom, which is VW’s most important market in terms of sales despite the setback. It is offered with one or two engines. The rear-wheel drive car has a CLTC standard range of 642 kilometers from its 84.8 kWh battery, the all-wheel drive car has 570 kilometers. Many interested parties complain about high prices, and they also don’t want to pay extra for features such as heated seats.
