François-Xavier Bellamy pointed to Eric Piolle’s position in favor of authorizing the wearing of the burkini in Grenoble, a city of which he is mayor. The MEP pleaded for democratic principles and denounced this “reason for inclusion” invoked on several occasions.
Asked about the burkini controversy, François-Xavier Bellamy reacted to the municipal council meeting this Monday in Grenoble. The elected officials of the city led by Eric Piolle (EELV) must decide on the authorization of the port of the burkini in the swimming pools.
The MEP denounced the remarks of the ecologist. “Eric Piolle explains to us that the burkini is social progress,” pointed out François-Xavier Bellamy of the Les Républicains party at the microphone of Europe 1 on Monday. “Eric Piolle’s demonstration makes no sense from an intellectual point of view and it is scandalous from a moral point of view. Eric Piolle would like to act as if the burkini was a garment like any other.”
“The work of Islamism is progressing”
He continues: “He wants to act as if the burkini was a garment like any other.” But the deputy believes: “We don’t have the right to dress just any old way in a democracy. It’s completely true, including in the municipal swimming pools of Grenoble.
François-Xavier Bellamy believes that “behind this fight, there is the work of Islamism which is progressing”. “I also see it in the European institutions,” he pleaded. He denounces a “denial of realities” which prevents “looking in the face at the real danger behind these attempts to infiltrate an ideology which seeks to overthrow our institutions, which are themselves responsible for defending freedom, equality and fraternity. “
