Pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, joggers … Who must wear the mask in the streets of Paris from this Friday, August 28?
Since this Friday, August 31 at 8 am, wearing a mask is mandatory outside in Paris but also in the inner suburbs. This therefore also includes Hauts-de-Seine, Val-de-Marne and Seine-Saint-Denis. If this measure tries to cope with the resurgence of the epidemic, yesterday it concerned everyone without exception, and everywhere. In the streets, in parks and other public spaces, whether you are a pedestrian, biker or cyclist, jogger or scooter, the prefecture announced the wearing of the compulsory mask. But this morning, a new statement was released on this subject: "Wearing a mask will not be required for the people exercising a physical activity for running or cycling " can we read. Note that the prefecture specifies that children under 11 are not required.
Emmanuel Grégoire, deputy mayor of Paris, explained: "We are opposed to wearing a mask on a bicycle because there is no scientific evidence that it is dangerous and, above all, is very counterproductive. Take the bike to try to relieve congestion on public transport. And, at the same time, they are asked to wear a mask which is particularly uncomfortable. We are asking to reconsider this decision and reflect on the issue of jogging, because anyone who has jogged in their life knows that it is impossible to do it with a mask on. " In addition, this exposes to a fine of 135 euros.
Sure Cnews, Anne Souyris, deputy mayor of Paris in charge of health, returned to the subject by evoking people who smoke. It will now be prohibited to smoke in the street since wearing a mask is compulsory: "It is forbidden to smoke in the street, it is forbidden to take off the mask", she explains at the microphone of CNews. It remains to await confirmation from the police headquarters.
