Take care in the mountains. This Wednesday, December 29, four departments are on orange vigilance for rain-flood and avalanche risks.

In detail, Ain is on rain-flood alert while Haute-Savoie, Savoie and Isère are facing a double rain-flood and avalanche alert.

In its 6am bulletin, Météo France notes that “the soils are already well saturated” in these four departments and the “avalanche risk is high on all the massifs of Haute-Savoie”.

“Numerous wet snow avalanches will be triggered this Wednesday with the return of the rain, which could take the entire snowpack in place. These avalanches could reach exposed road sectors as well as mountain infrastructures ”, warns the meteorological institute.

Tuesday, the prefecture of Savoie called for caution: “Due to the strong risk of avalanches today and tomorrow, Pascal Bolot, prefect of Savoie, calls on motorists accessing the ski resorts of the department to be particularly vigilant, as well as to those who practice mountain activities ”.

According to Météo France, precipitation should continue “steadily” until the middle of the night from Wednesday to Thursday.
