Weather: three departments placed on orange alert for violent winds: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

At the end of 2023, Brittany should not fail in its reputation. Indeed, Saturday December 30, 2023, Météo-France indicated that Côtes-d’Armor, Finistère and Morbihan, three Breton departments were going to be placed on orange alert for violent winds, from Saturday evening, from 9 p.m. The reason for this vigilance: the arrival of a “very active disturbance” on Brittany, with of the “brief but sometimes violent gales”. “The last disturbance of the year, which will circulate over France between the night of Saturday to Sunday and New Year’s Eve, should water practically the entire country, except the north-east of Corsica, and the coast of the Pyrénées-Orientales at Hérault”could we read in the forecast bulletin from the meteorological service, dated Saturday, December 30 in the morning.

Calm should return on Sunday, December 31 in the morning

The disruption which should affect Brittany on the eve of the last day of 2023 should lead to strong gusts of wind which could reach 60-70 km/h inland and up to 80-100 km/h as the disturbed front passes. In some areas, the wind could even blow up to 120 km/h. According to Météo-France, these “brief but sometimes violent gusts of wind require particular vigilance in the context of saturated soils”. Unlike storm Ciaran, which caused extensive damage in Brittany and lasted for many hours, this new windy episode should not exceed one hour, according to the weather institute. Orange vigilance should therefore end around 4 a.m. on December 31. Other regions of France will not be spared by the wind either. Gusts ranging from 60 to 80 km/h are, for example, expected in Auvergne, Rhône-Alpes and the Pyrenees. After a night which should therefore be marked by violent winds and rain, a certain calm should return for the last day of the year 2023. You will still have to be very attentive and consult the weather forecast if you ever have to hit the road.
