Weather tomorrow: this new map added to Evelyne Dhéliat’s bulletins

While TF1 is implementing an unprecedented action plan on its antennas, Évelyne Dhéliat, head of the weather service, which is celebrating its thirty years of bulletins, on the air from Monday to Friday at 7:55 p.m., reveals the details of this initiative.

TF1 is implementing a sort of editorial plan for the climate. Can you tell us more?

Evelyne Dhéliat: It is a general plan of info. In our bulletins before 8 p.m., in newspaper subjects, we will add the Our planet logo which will help to identify subjects related to the ecological transition, for example. As I did in 2003, we will give the right steps to adopt for climate protection.

There are fears of a power shortage this winter. Are you going to alert viewers?

We are going to work this winter hand in hand with RTE (manager of the electricity transmission network, editor’s note). There are indeed fears of the risk of electrical load shedding in the event of a cold snap which will lead to high electrical consumption. We will relay Ecowatt alerts. In other words, we will give the weather forecaster an orange and red vigilance card a few days before to warn.

France Télévisions has also just created “a climate team” to discuss these subjects in its news. Proof that everyone is on alert…

This means that we are really in what we have to do.

In thirty years of weather forecasting, have you seen the reports change?

I saw an acceleration of records. More than ever, warning about the climate is of public utility. With what we experienced this summer, between heat records and storms, remaining indifferent to the climate would be unconscious. We smashed the heat records that were expected for 2050.

You have two grandchildren aged 14 and 18. Do you send them this climatological message?

They, like their entire generation, are awake to the subject. I have great confidence in them. In the population, the most anxious for the planet are the youngest.

You have also just agreed to be an ambassador for the Pink Ribbon campaign. Why now ?

Already, I would like to specify that there are three of us with Claudia Tagbo and Alice Detollenaere (model who has overcome breast cancer, editor’s note). I accepted because I heard doctors say that when people with a certain notoriety commit themselves to this cause, it can cause a click in women. I told myself that I had a role to play and I accepted. Our message: “Show your boobs to your doctors.” I put aside my resentment.

That’s to say ?

When I had my cancer in 2012 – it’s been ten years – I didn’t want to communicate because it was personal. I didn’t want to flaunt myself, to whine. On the contrary, I had to fight. Today, I am proud to participate in this prevention campaign.
