France is experiencing a new episode of heat wave. After 15 departments placed in red vigilance on Monday, the forecasts of Météo France, which predicts “a heat apocalypse”, are even more negative for the day of this Tuesday July 19
The French are facing a new episode of heat wave. This Monday, already, heat records have been broken in several cities in Franceespecially in Brittany where thermometers experienced temperatures never seen before. “In some areas of the Southwest, it will be a heat apocalypse”, said François Gourand, forecaster at Météo-France. “There are a lot of records expected on Monday and Tuesday: in Brittany, with perhaps up to 40°C in Brest and in the Landes forest which will be above 42°C“for his part, said forecaster Olivier Proust during the press briefing.
Thereby, Météo France has logically decided to place 15 French departments on heatwave red alertwhich leads the inhabitants of these areas to observe a “absolute vigilance in the face of phenomena of exceptional intensitye”. These are the following departments: Charente, Charente-Maritime, Côtes-d’Armor, Dordogne, Finistère, Gers, Gironde, Ille-et-Vilaine, Landes, Loire-Atlantique, Lot-et-Garonne, Maine -et-Loire, Morbihan, Deux-Sèvres and Vendée.
Heat wave: how will Tuesday go according to Météo France?
These heat peaks will cause great air pollution. As if that weren’t enough, the intense heat fanned the fires, which have multiplied in recent days. As in Gironde, where more than 15,000 hectares of land burned in a fire that is still uncontrollable by local firefighters.
As for Tuesday, Météo France predicts another extremely hot day, but “a significant drop in temperatures will be confirmed at the end of the day”. The high temperatures will move over the eastern half of France, “most often between 37°C and 40°C while a stormy deterioration is expected, especially marked at the end of the day, from the Massif Central to the North and the Grand-Est”. Hold on, the worst is already behind us.
