Foehn storm #5

The weather has not calmed down since mid-October. On the front of hurricane “Domingos” with its center near Great Britain, the fifth foehn storm in the last few weeks appeared in the Alps over the course of Saturday. The strongest gusts occurred on Saturday afternoon and evening. In the classic foehn areas, such as the Haslital, the Uri Reuss Valley or the Rhine Valley, foehn gusts of up to 100 kilometers per hour were reached locally. On the summits, the strongest gusts were almost 120 kilometers per hour.

Southwest storm

The hurricane depression over Brittany generally causes stormy weather. On Sunday almost all areas of the northern side of the Alps are affected. Stormy winds arose on the Jura heights on Saturday morning. On Sunday the low will pass us to the north, and squalls can also be expected in the lowlands and on the Alpine foothills. Hurricane gusts of up to 150 kilometers per hour are possible on the summits. In the lowlands, the gust peaks on Sunday will be between 60 and locally 100 kilometers per hour.

Measures

We are experiencing the first real autumn storm this year, especially in the lowlands. It is worth securing loose objects in the gardens and on the balconies. Since the trees currently still have a lot of foliage, there is a risk of falling trees or falling branches in some places. As a precaution, we advise against a walk in the forest.

Fallen tree

Legend:

The trees haven’t lost all their leaves yet. Due to the large area exposed to the wind, falling trees cannot be ruled out.
