Potential for severe thunderstorms

In the early hours of the morning, some heavy hailstorms swept across parts of the cantons of Fribourg, Bern, Solothurn and Lucerne. In a short time, 26 mm of rain fell in Egolzwil/LU and 24 mm in Huttwil/BE. Locally it was stormy, in Egolzwil a hurricane gust of 133 km/h was registered.

Around noon and in the afternoon, further lines of thunderstorms will move across Switzerland from southwest to northeast. The greatest potential for severe weather is in central and eastern Switzerland and on the south side of the Alps. In places, a lot of rain in a short time, hail and storm or even hurricane gusts must be expected. In the western parts of the country, the weather will calm down in the course of the afternoon. In the evening, thunderstorm activity will also gradually subside in the south and east.
