“JI see no desire on the part of Paris and Berlin to seize the historic moment we are living through and to move towards a real defense of the Union at this level, to invest in it”, laments Manfred Weber, the president of the European Christian Democrats (EPP), a few days before the Franco-German Council of Ministers on January 22. He was answering a question from Point at a press conference in Strasbourg on Tuesday.

Olaf Scholz, Angela Merkel’s successor to the Chancellery, has for many months been resisting the European solutions offered to him by Emmanuel Macron. The boss of the first political group in the European Parliament slays the reciprocal national reflexes of the two countries, which clash with the European advances obtained under the Merkel era.
